In North Carolina, three workers are missing after an explosion at a Slim Jim beef jerky factory in Garner. From the air it was clear much of the roof of the 425-thousand square foot building had collapsed. Cars were crushed as the front of the plant was forced outward.
Workers at the Con Agra food plant said first there was a fire and then a large explosion. About a dozen employees were exposed to toxic fumes from an ammonia leak and some have chemical burns. A hazardous materials team is on site to contain the leaking chemicals.
The cause of the explosion is not known. There is concern among investigators that another collapse is possible.
