This week's Golden Apple Educator is teaching her students the benefits of giving back to others.
Dressed up in her camouflage for Red Ribbon week, Bell Elementary School's Counselor, Sarah Jane Walker, is not only teaching kids to be drug free, she's also encouraging them to support our troops.
All week, students are dropping off items to be sent to soldiers stationed in Afghanistan. Walker says she got the idea after hearing that several of her student's fathers are serving overseas.
"We knew that we had parents over there and I've looked online before and seen that there's lots of needs that are out there and things that people could appreciate having that are just from home that you can't get when you're in Afghanistan or Iraq," said Sarah Jane Walker, counselor for Bell Elementary School.
Some of the things they're collecting are: snacks, Gladwear, air fresheners and puzzle books. Walker says a service organization is helping the school ship the gifts abroad.
