A program that helps Tyler ISD students make it into college receives a major donation.
State Farm Insurance presented a check in the amount of $5,500 to the AVID program.
The mission of the program is to provide access to four-year colleges for students. For some students, they're the first in their family to attend a major university.
"I would be the first one out of all my brothers and sisters to graduate, and that just makes me proud of myself that I'm going through with it," Kamr'e Timmons, John Tyler Senior. "I am making my parents proud, not just my parents, but I'm doing it for myself," added Timmons.
More than 750 students are in the program. AVID is located on six middle school campuses and at both TISD high schools.
