An altercation over the weekend left one man dead and another in jail charged with murder, according to Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse.
Police responded to a suspicious person with a knife call around 5 a.m. Nov. 26 at Double Bridge Road in the Cherokee Shores Subdivision in Henderson County. The suspect, later identified as Doyle Wayne Deason, 65, was reportedly searching for another person who stole from him.
Shortly after, a report came in about a stabbing nearby on Double Bridge Road. The victim, 43-year-old Bryan Rodgers, was taken to a local hospital but later died from his injury.
Authorities found a gun they believe was used in the altercation while searching a scene on Huntoon Trail. Further investigation led them to the Timber Bay subdivison where Deason was found suffering from a minor gunshot wound.
Deason allegedly confessed to stabbing Rodgers, but is was discovered through further interrogation that Rodgers was not the person that Deason was looking for.
Deason is in the Henderson County Jail on one count of murder. His bond is set at one million dollars.
