The Salvation Army will host the 2016 Red Kettle Kick-Off celebration today. This marks the beginning of the annual campaign and the familiar sounds of bells ringing around East Texas during the holiday season.

The event will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at Tyler Downtown Square. If the rain continues, the event will move to the Salvation Army Building No. 1 located at 633 North Broadway Avenue.

Music and a free lunch will be provided for all who attend, and those that come are asked to wear red in support of the event.

The Red Kettle Campaign dates back to 1891, and is now held throughout the world. Public contributions to Salvation Army kettles helps them help those in need year-round.
