Chapel Hill ISD teacher arrested for allegedly showing inappropriate images to students

Students recorded the teacher's laptop while it was showing sexually explicit material, then reported it to school officials.

William Perkins, a Chapel Hill ISD teacher, was arrested on Monday for allegedly displaying pornographic material to several high school students.

According to the Smith County Sheriff's Office, deputies received a report on March 1, 2018 from the Chapel Hill SRO regarding a teacher who allegedly had a laptop that was displaying multiple pornographic images to students at a local high school.

While the images were being being shown, several students recorded the images and reported them to school personnel.

The Chapel Hill SRO began an investigation, and Perkin's laptop was seized as evidence.

Authorities forwarded the case to the Smith County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division for follow-up investigation who, after obtaining the laptop by a search warrant, verified that various sexually explicit images were observed on its hard drive.

Perkins turned himself in Monday afternoon on one charge of Display of Harmful Material to Minor.

He is being held under a preset bond of $2,500.
