The City of Tyler will be hosting the Bergfeld Summer Showcase to kick off the reopening of the amphitheater.
The kickoff event starts Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Food trucks will be on site. The event is free to attend and open to the public.
The amphitheater was originally built back in 1936 but needed some major upgrades. Those upgrades included sound and light features, fixing drainage issues, shading seats and creating a grassy area for seating in the back section.
Construction on the new amphitheater started in January and Tyler City Councilman Don Warren says the new upgrades will allow the whole community to make use of the venue.
“Well, it's going to be more open to the public to bring shows, I mean if you have something with your church or your organization and you want to a ballet with little children you can do it,” said Warren. “You can rent it, and it's open for everybody."
