Two men are in the Angelina County jail after robbing a local restaurant and leading officers on a high-speed chase in a stolen car.
According to a Lufkin Police Department press release, 19-year-old Douglas Richard and 21-year-old Edward Hernandez entered the Denman Avenue Jack-in-the-Box around 1:30 a.m. and stole the cash register drawer at gunpoint before fleeing in the store manager's car.
An officer spotted the stolen car moments later and a high-speed chase ensued, spanning from Lufkin to Diboll and back and reaching speeds of 90-100 mph.
The chase ended when officers successfully spiked the car tires at the entrance of U.S. 59 South at The Settlement entrance.
Richard and Hernandez tried to purchase food at the drive-thru window an hour before the robbery, but left on foot when told the restaurant did not take "walk up" orders.
Both are charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and Richard received an additional charge of evading arrest with a vehicle with a previous conviction. They remain in the Angelina County jail and bond has not yet been set.
The Diboll Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and Angelina County Sheriff's Office assisted during the pursuit.
