Firefighters discovered a marijuana grow room with about 100 plants after extinguishing a moderate fire at a Tyler duplex Monday morning.
Crews responded to a structure fire at 1004 West 31st Street around 7:20 a.m Monday morning and quickly extinguished a moderate fire in a bedroom. They believe candles placed on the floor started the fire.
One person at home during the fire woke to find his room full of smoke, so he poured water on the flames. Thinking he had extinguished the fire, he left and went to his parents to wait for the smoke to clear.
As fire crews were investigating the rest of the duplex, they discovered a marijuana grow room and notified Tyler Police, who arrived and seized 100 plants plus special grow lights and other items related to the operation.
