Lufkin first responders worked in tandem Sunday afternoon to save a man who became trapped under a bridge due to swiftly rising waters. Heavy rains had just moved through the area, causing the creek to rapidly overflow its banks.

Lufkin Police officers as well as a nearby Good Samaritan tried to get to the man, who was stuck between two pylons, just inches below the underside of the Chestnut Village bridge, but quickly realized they needed more help and called it in to dispatch.

The trapped man was pulled to safety and taken to a local hospital for treatment, but his identity has not yet been released.
