The Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office is investigating after an 11-year-old boy died Wednesday after an accidental shooting. The shooting occurred in the Martinsville are.
The child went into the parent’s closet and found a pistol. The gun went off hitting the boy in the head.
Law enforcement and medical personnel were called to a residence around 1:43 p.m. A trooper got to he residence and the mother was performing CPR on the child. The trooper took over CPR until EMS arrived.
The child was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to family members, the child was an avid hunter, and familiar with guns and had taken a hunters education class.
The Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office is conducting an investigation into the shooting. An autopsy had been ordered.
Due to the victim being a minor the identity of the victim will not be released.
