A 13-year-old was injured in an early-morning shooting near UT Tyler campus.

Police were called to an aggravated assault around 3 a.m. at a residence on McDonald Road and arrived to find several rounds had been fired into the residence through a window.

Three of the rounds struck a 13-year-old in the legs. The victim was sent to a hospital for treatment, and is expected to be okay.

Officers say they heard what sounded like one shot fired as they arrived, but do not know its origin. They searched the area, but the shooter is still at large.

The child's mother says they've only lived in the home for three months and has no idea who would want to target the home.

According to the mom, there were six children in the living room at the time of the shooting.

Tyler Police ask that anyone with information on this shooting to call them at 903-531-1000.

This story corrects the injured child's age. It was previously reported the child was 8 years old.
