Two people were killed in separate crashes over the weekend in Polk and Nacogdoches Counties.
The first fatality happened around 10:30 a.m. Sunday on Highway 59 north from the business 59 entrance ramp just one mile north of Nacogdoches. According to a preliminary crash report, for unknown reasons, a 2017 Cadillac entered Highway 59 at the ramp, turning in front of a tractor-trailer headed north. The tractor-trailer hit the Cadillac killing the driver, identified as 64-year-old Jeannie Oeffner from Katy.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, 67-year-old Tony Smelser from San Angelo, was not injured.
The second fatality also happened around 7 p.m. Sunday on Highway 59 near the city of Goodrich. According to a preliminary crash report, the driver of a Toyota car failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign on SL 393 and pulled into the path of a motorcycle. The motorcyle struck the car, throwing the driver, 20-year-old Kimberly Skinner from San Antonio, from the bike. Skinner was wearing a helmet, but died at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota, 56-year-old Sara Hernandez de Guerrero from Livingston was not injured.
Both accidents remain under investigation.
