Thursday night, authorities released the identities of the couple involved in a deadly boat accident on Lake Palestine.

Billie Wagnon died Wednesday night when the boat she was riding in went over the lake's spillway, according to Game Warden Capt. Mike Hanson.

Her husband, Keith Wagnon, was hurt in the crash and remained in ICU Thursday, Hanson said.

The Game Warden told CBS19 the accident remains under investigation.



Texas Game Warden Captain Mike Hanson confirms that a man and woman were in the boat that went over the spillway Wednesday night. The woman died and the male is in the ICU at a Tyler hospital.

Identifications have not yet been released.

A preliminary investigation found the boat was traveling at a high rate of speed toward the dam and passed the buoys at the edge of the spillway before going over, Hanson said.

People fishing below jumped in the water and were able to pull the male victim to shore, he said.


Authorities will return to the Lake Palestine spillway Thursday morning to continue the investigation into a deadly accident.

First responders remained on-scene until about 10 p.m.

The Game Warden is investigating with help from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.

Details, including the names of those involved and the condition of the surviving boater, were unavailable Thursday morning.
