Rafael Castillo, Jr., a 27-year-old federal prison inmate, will serve 20 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of a prohibited object.
According to court proceedings, on June 20, 2016, Castillo was an inmate at the Federal Correctional Complex in Beaumont and during a pat-down search, officers found that he had two homemade weapons measuring approximately 5.5 inches and 7 inches in length.
Castillo's weapons were hidden in the pocket of his pants.
Each of the two weapons, known as, "shanks", were made of metal material and were sharped to a point to be used as weapons.
Castillo's 20-month sentence for the shanks will be served after the sentence he is currently serving.
