TYLER, TX - Starting in 2018, girls will be admitted into the Cub Scouts, the foundation of the Boy Scouts of America.

The Boy Scouts of America announced Wednesday that it plans to admit girls into the Cub Scouts starting next year, before establishing a new program for older girls to admit into the Eagle Scouts, the highest honor of the Boy Scouts.

Under the new plan, the Cub Scout dens will either be single gender, all boys or all girls, while the larger Cub Scout packs will have the option of welcoming both genders.

Daniel Anderson, Chief Scout Executive say, "going forward from this, only the number of families we impact will grow, it being such an international day of recognizing opportunities for young women, we're glad to be a part of continuing to extend boy scout traditions forward to them."
