As Ricki Taylor's family comes to terms with her sudden death, memories of her infectious laugh and love of community service bring comfort.
"She pushed boundaries," said Taylor's younger sister Jamie Richardson. "She didn't set herself to any limits or anybody else's guideline."
Taylor was the first female to finish Palestine High School's building trades program, according to her family. She also spent more than 20 years working at McCoy's Building Supply in Palestine.
Taylor, 46, most recently worked at 93.5 Pine Country Radio and called Palestine home for her entire life. She volunteered for the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce among other community organizations.
"She believed in - more than anything - helping people, lending a helping hand to anyone that was down," her daughter Amanda Farris said.
Taylor leaves behind two adult daughters and a young son.
"It was hard to catch her in a serious moment unless you pushed her there," said middle daughter Jeannie Rocha.
The family said a focus on positive memories has helped in dealing with the horrifying events of the last week.
"This is such a tragedy, and there are so many gruesome details that have been shared, and it is the truth," said Richardson. "We are not running from that. We understand what happened even though it's really hard to deal with."
Taylor's sister and daughters also expressed their gratitude to the Palestine Police Department and its handling of the incident.
"The detectives working on the case have done so much," said Richardson. "The timeliness on how quickly they were able to find her, how they've respected the family and kept us notified when there is relevant details, they have really gone above and beyond what I would even think is necessary keeping us informed and up to date. We really appreciate how they have handled it."
Anyone with information on Taylor's death is urged to call Det. Mark Harcrow or Det. David Kassaw of the Palestine Police Department at 903-729-2254.
