Tyler Police Chief Jimmy Toler announced five arrests made in connection with a Houston-based credit card skimming ring during a press conference on Friday.
"Investigators have currently arrested five people connected to this criminal activity in Tyler and Smith County with future arrests expected," Toler said.
According to police, the number of devices being found at gas pumps around East Texas continues to rise.
Michelle Mills with the Better Business Bureau in Tyler said that one way to avoid having your identity stolen is to avoid paying at the pump.
"The best thing to do, especially right now, is to go inside the gas station and pay with cash," Mills said.
Chief Toler said that two more people are wanted in connection with the skimming ring.
