The City of Marshall is teaming up with the police department and "Marshall Against Violence" for a Back to School Bash at Smith Park on Tuesday, August 14. Free school supplies will be handed out to students from kindergarten to college.

Free food will be available to all who attend. Police officers will be at the park handing out free ice cream and spending time with the kids.

Marshall Police Department Spokesperson Kelly Colvin says the event will help officers build relationships with the city’s youth.

“It's very important for our officers to get out there and hang out with our kids while they're still younger to go ahead and build those positive relationships that they can carry with them when they get to be teenagers and adults," said Colvin.

A limited amount of school uniforms will also be available.
