Lexington, SC (WLTX) - Lexington Police and Lexington County Animal Control are asking for the public's help after a dog was kicked repeatedly and thrown down a set of stairs.

Officers say on October 16, they were notified on social media of the incident, which took place at the Cedarcrest Village Apartments. A Facebook page had pictures and video that showed a small white dog being kicked several times. The video goes on to show a person hold the dog up, then toss the animal down a flight of stairs.

Police say they were able to find the dog and the owner. Officers say the got a search warrant and got custody of the dog, and say they'll hold the animal until the investigation is complete.

Lexington County Animal Control gave Timothy Mister a summons for mistreatment of an animal for not seeking treatment for his dog after being notified of the animal abuse.

Officers say they want to find out who committed the acts of animal cruelty, and they're asking anyone with information to come forward. People should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or the Lexington Police Department at 803.359.6260.
