The Palestine Police Department released the incident report that reveals more about what happened between two Palestine students that ended with one arrested and one with severe facial injuries.
According to the report, Gray confronted Stanczak about money Stanczak owed after losing a basketball game. Stanczak stated he'd get the $5.00 owed to Gray "when he could."
Stanczak then states that Gray started pushing him more trying to instigate a fight. Gray then started punching Stanczak.
A witness stated that "Stanczak wrapped Gray up and was not trying to fight back," and that he and other teammates pulled the two apart.
Nate Smith, City of Palestine PIO, confirmed that Le'George Marquez Gray, 17, was arrested Thursday in connection with the assault of 18-year-old Michael Stanczak.
CBS19 talked with his mother, Angie, Friday morning. She stated that Michael's face was shattered and he suffered a broken nose and jaw after being hit five times.. He has already undergone surgery for his injuries.
The family is with Michael at Dallas Children's right now and tells us they love and forgive Gray.
Gray is in the Anderson County Jail.
CBS19 reached out to the Palestine Independent School District and received the following statement:
Two Palestine High School students were involved in an altercation Wednesday afternoon. One student received significant injuries. Palestine High School and Palestine High School Athletic Department are investigating the situation and will make disciplinary decisions based on the student code of conduct and athletic handbook. Additionally, the school resource officer in conjunction with the Palestine Police Department made an arrest Thursday afternoon. Any criminal decision will be made independently and separately from Palestine ISD.
