Christmas came early a K-9 officer in Tyler who received a surprise protective vest at a ceremony held at Tyler Police headquarters on Thursday.

Officer Don Martin’s K-9 partner ‘Izzy’ was wagging his tail as the $1200 check was presented to the department.

‘Pets Fur People’ executive director Gayle Hale helped raise the money through the first ever First Responder Benefit in October.

“This is serious business for these animals so they need to be protected when they go out and do their job,” Helms said.

‘Pets Fur People’ is a no-kill animal shelter that provides animals with a safe place to stay before finding their forever home.
