With autumn in full swing and the weather starting to cool, it is the perfect time for East Texans to enjoy the outdoors and some family fun. Many churches, organizations and businesses will put on fall festivals for the community from now through Oct. 31. Most of the events feature food, games and candy, with some including hayrides and petting zoos. Check out the list to see the opportunities.
Grace Baptist Church, 119 Peavine Road, Kilgore,will have a fall festival from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The free event will have games, face painting, hayrides and concessions.
Concord BaptistChurch, 14742 Farm-to-Market Road 2010, Chandler,will have a “Fall-O-Ween Jesus Fall Festival” from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The free event will have food, games and prizes.
Bullard First Assembly of God, 51733 U.S. Highway 69 North, Bullard, will have a fall festival from 3 p.m. to 7 pm. The free event will have candy, games, bounce houses, car show, petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, free food and a concert featuring Barabbas. Guests should bring their own chairs.
Trail to Christ Cowboy Church, 5858 U.S. Highway 79 West, Jacksonville, will have a Cowboy Carnival from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free though donations of canned food will be accepted. Activities include food, games, hayride and contests.
Juls is hosting a “Pooches on the Patio” event. There will be a costume contest for the dogs, sign-up starts at 5 p.m. The contest “red carpet walk” will begin at 5:45 p.m. and is limited to the first 25 dogs that sign up. Awards will be given for First Place, Second Place, Third Place, Best Costume, Funniest Costume, Scariest Costume and Most Original Costume. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the SPCA of East Texas. It is required that all pooches be current on vaccinations and wear a rabies tag. All puppies under a year of age must be fully vaccinated to attend.
Shiloh Road Church of Christ,1801 Shiloh Road, Tyler,will have a fall festival from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The free event will include games, photo booth, trick-or-treating, chili cook off, hotdog supper and touch-a-trunk.
The Tyler Parksand Recreation Department will have the annual Fall Family Fun Festival from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Glass Recreation Center, 501 W. 32nd St. The free event, designed for children ages 2 to 12, includes entertainment, games, bounce houses, clowns, face painters and a costume contest.
Whitehouse Parks and Recreation will have the annual Halloween in the Park free trick-or-treating from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a free movie, “Hotel Transylvania 2” from 8 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.
Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center will have “Halloween at the Hatchery” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admissions will be $1 to get in with all proceeds benefiting local nonprofit organizations. The event will be decorated in a fright-free theme with family-friendly games. Guests can enter the event using the Visitor Center entrance, the bus and trailer parking lot gate, and the overflow parking lot gate. The overflow parking lot is close to the Anglers Pavilion and is located on Peninsula Point Road. The center will be open for regular business hours the day of the event from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Once the center is closed no one will be admitted between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Cumberland Academy Elementarywill have a fall festival from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be games, haunted house, cakewalk, food, petting zoo and a bounce house. There is a $5 entry fee.
All Saints Episcopal School, 2695 SSW Loop 323, Tyler,will kick off its “Honor our Past, Imagine our Future Capital Campaign” from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will include trick-or-treating, carnival games, costume contest, face painting, cookout and Pokey O’s.
North TennehaChurch of Christ, 1701 N. Tenneha Ave., Tyler, will have a free fall festival styled trunk or treat from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 4900 Kinsey Drive, Tyler, will have an Oktoberfest from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Activities will include wiener dog races, a bounce house, cakewalk, costume contest, beer, brats and dancing with live music by John Hord Band. Admission is free. Food and drink for sale.
County Line Baptist Church, 13181 Farm-to-Market Road, Bullard, will have its fall festival from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Activities will include games, prizes, face painting and a cupcake walk. All activities and games are free.
First Baptist Church Omen, 17912 County Road 285, Arp, will have a communitywide fall festival from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with trunk or treat, games, a cakewalk, a hayride, photo opportunities, popcorn, cotton candy, snow cones and hot dogs. All activities and admision are free.
Greater Life Church, 2751 Farm-to-Market Road 344 East, Bullard, will have a fall festival from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Activities will include bounce houses, trunk or treat, a photo booth, hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones and more. Admission and activities are free.
Gladewater Emergency Services will have a fall fest from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The free event will have food, games and candy. The local fire department, police and EMS will be at the event for a meet and greet.
Grace Fellowship Church-Flint,18802 Old Jacksonville Highway, will have a Harvest Celebration from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Activities will include inflatables, hayrides, carnival games, puppet shows and free food.
Pentecostals of Pittsburg will host a fall festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event will have food, candy, bounce houses, face painting, a hayride and games. The event will be held at 105 Arch Davis Road in Pittsburg.
Southside Baptist Church, 15330 Farm-to-Market Road 2493, Tyler, will have a fall festival from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The free event will have food, door prizes, candy, games, crafts, a wild west show, a maze and a train.
Woodland Christian Church, 2472 Farm-to-Market 1844, Longview, will have a Halloween Festival from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Activities will include a bounce house, games, hot dogs, candy, popcorn, a chili cook-off and a cakewalk.
Carpenter’s Cross Baptist Church, 18110 Farm-to-Market 344 W, Flint, will have its family fall festival starting at 3 p.m. Activities will include a chili cook-off, dessert bake-off, live band, trunk or treat and games. Admission cost is a donation of nonperishable food items.
Geo Customz and Freedom Fellowship have paired up to put on a free trunk or treat event starting at 5 p.m. There will be free drinks, candy, games/prizes, bounce houses, mini theater, miniature hayride and music. The event will be held at 2915 SSE Loop 323, in Tyler.
Central Baptist Church, 1343 E. Grande Blvd., Tyler,will have a free trunk or treat event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There also will be games and bounce houses.
CrossPointe Community Church is hosting a “Texas Sized Event” from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The free event will include games, bounce houses, pony rides, chili and dessert cook off.
Green Acres Baptist Church, 1607 Troup Highway, Tyler, will have an Autumn Festival from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the CrossWalk covered parking area. Activities will include candy, game booths, bounce houses and Praise Alive in concert. Carnival food will be available for purchase.
Tyler First Assembly of God, 5309 Rhones Quarter Road,will have “Fam Fest 2017” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Activities will include trunk or treat as well as a live crucifixion reenactment. There also will be free hot dogs and popcorn.
Flint Baptist Church, 11131 Farm-to-Market Road 2868, Flint, will have its second annual Light Up the Night for Jesus from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The free event will include bounce houses and other inflatables, small train rides, games, music, magic and story times, and food trucks.
Atria Copeland, 5317 New Copeland Road, Tyler, will have a free “Spooktacular” event from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will be trick-or-treating, face painting, games, crafts and snacks.
Broadway Square Mall, 4601 S. Broadway Ave., Tyler,will have a “Boo Bash” a free mall wide trick-or-treating event from 5 p.m. to 7p.m. Stores will pass out candy to children as they enter the store.
Holly Brook Baptist Church, 3219 S. Farm-to-Market Road 2869, Hawkins, will have its 12th annual fall festival. There will be trick-or-treating in the Family Life Center from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring one can of food for the Hawkins Helping Hands’ food bank.
Lanes Chapel UMC, 8720 Old Jacksonville Highway, Tyler, will have its Pumpkin Patch while supplies last.
