LONGVIEW - Carla Matthews received a phone call from the nursing home in the morning, that's when she found out her father Billy Coley died in his sleep. Coley and his best friend Andy Malone are named after the baseball field that will be made for Longview Christian school.

"He had an Eagles jersey on his wall at the nursing home," Matthews said. "One of the last things we took down today."

The baseball legend was living with Alzheimer for a couple of years, his daughter described the moment to be bitter sweet. Her father is gone but he's not suffering from the disease anymore.

"His blue eyes twinkled till the very end," Matthews said.

Matthews described her father to be: unselfish, humorous and generous. Coley's love for baseball and teaching kids how to play meant the world to him. Getting the 'Coley Malone Field' built means much more to Matthews.

"For us to have a chance to have something with his name on it, I just know he would be really proud of that," Matthews said.

Matthews said Coley didn't share his feelings as much but when he did, she would cherish the memory.

"One of the last coherent things he said to me was that he was proud of me and he loved me," Matthews said.

It cost 160 thousand dollars to fund the new diamond, so far they've collected around 40 thousand. Donations are welcomed to complete the Coley Malone field.
