Florida residents Waylon Franklin Simms, Jr. 37, and 34-year-old Devin Kaye Harrison, are facing charges after trying to pass counterfeit money at around 11:20 a.m. on Thursday at Hibbett Sports on the 1800 block of East End Boulevard North.
When police responded to the call about the counterfeit money and arrived to the business, the customer trying to use the money had already left the store
However, the customer left evidence behind after being unsuccessful with his purchase, and he was still believed to be in the area.
Marshall Police Department detectives located the vehicle that matched the suspect's description in the Walmart parking lot and made contact with the vehicle's occupants.
After detectives approached them, it was revealed that the occupants had over $2,000 in money that appeared to be altered.
Once police further investigated that money, it was evident that the bills were counterfeit, matching the money left at Hibbet Sports.
Simms and Harrison were arrested and booked into the Harrison County Jail.
They are both charged with forgery of money, a third degree felony in Texas that is punishable by a fine of up to $10,000 and/or a prison sentence ranging from 2 to 10 years.
