Local businesses celebrated National Hire-A-Veteran Day on Tuesday to raise awareness for Veterans looking for employment.

Michael Duran with Right at Home, a senior care business in Tyler, said that he focuses on hiring Veterans when he can because of their work ethic and reliability.

“I'd much rather put someone who has actually cared for someone in someone’s home than someone who has just gotten a certificate in school to get a job,” Duran said.

Hire-a-hero, a non-profit organization, came up with the idea in hopes of networking area employers to Veterans looking for work after leaving the service.
