A Palestine police officer has been arrested.

“A Henderson County Grand Jury returned several indictments against Cpl. Joseph Hesseltine and he has been arrested,” Nate Smith, Palestine Communications and Best Practices Officer, said.

According to Smith, Palestine PD became aware of the potential charges and other law enforcement agencies are investigating the allegations.

Hesseltine, 35, has been charged with injury to a child/elderly/disabled criminal negligence and two counts of abandon endanger child criminal negligence.

Smith said, “Police Chief Mike Alexander placed Cpl. Hesseltine on temporary unpaid leave from the Palestine Police Department following the issuance of the indictments. The City has no further comment at this time, and inquiries regarding this matter should be directed to the Henderson County Prosecutor’s Office.”
