It's an annual event called "Cardboard Box City" to raise funds and awareness about homelessness in Longview.

The money goes to Longview Interfaith Hospitality Network. The event raises on average about $10,000. LIHN is a nonprofit that helps homeless families get back on their feet and self-supporting.

12-year-old Matthew Womack used to be homeless. He credits LIHN for getting his family back on their feet.

"They provided us with food and shelter... everything that we needed." Womack said.

Longview's mayor says about 470-490 people are homeless in Longview this year. Last years number was around 390.
