For the first time, Longview will host the Regional Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament. The Longview Boxing Club is sending two of its best to the ring.
"These are like our kids and we want them to be ready for this tournament and life," Trainer mike Campbell says. "Both are already champions and have the belts to prove it."
Ernesto Vazquez, 20, and Seth Alex, 15, are the future of boxing. Both have worked for years on their craft and one hope to become professionals.
"Boxing is my comfort,"Alex says. "My father boxed 30 years ago,and inspired me."
Campbell trained Alex's father and now works to make him into a professional."His father was a hard worker and this rubbed off onto Seth," Campbell says. 'You don't have to tell him to hit the ropes or bag, he just does it."
Larry Davis also trains both fighters and is encouraged that the tournament is coming to Longview.
"Their families will get to see them compete," Davis says. "They put in the work everyday and have a strong understanding of the fundamentals."
The Regional Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament will be February 2-4 at the Longview Fairgrounds. Even though both fighters do not know who they will be against, they say they are training everyday to win.
