The Palestine Police Department will close several roads at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec.16, 2017 for a memorial service for late Palestine judge, Bascom Bentley III.

A large attendance is anticipated, so the following roads will be closed:

  • East Crawford Street from North Sycamore to the end of the church property
  • North Sycamore from Erwin to Crawford streets
  • North Houston Street from East Oak to North Sycamore streets
  • Erwin Street from North Sycamore Street (Dead End)

The parking lots at First Christian Church and St. Phillips Episcopal Church will be reserved for dignitaries attending the memorial service.

Parking will be made available at Palestine Church, an old Capitol One bank branch on North Magnolia Streets and at the Palestine Herald-Press on Elm Street.

Spots will also be open throughout downtown Palestine.

Three viewing rooms will be set up at First Christian Church where mourners can observe the service via livestream video, courtesy of the Palestine Herald-Press online.

The memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. that day.
