It's been half a year since the Stephen F. Austin basketball team stepped back on the court. Once a year the men and women's team celebrate the new season with students and fans in an event named "Jack Madness". It's a community wide event for them to showcase the new talent. Coach Kyler Keller said the team's been waiting for this moment since the last season.
"We got four new players and plus a lot of returning players as well," Keller said.
Fans filled the seats and cheered for their Lumberjacks. One fan had a chance to win 10 thousand dollars, if they made a half-court shot. Plus, there were a few lucky fans who played game on court with the team. To students like Stephanie Gray, being able to spend time with the players and play games with them is what makes Jack Madness special.
"We get that connection with them and just get back into the basketball season which is the funnest season around," Gray said.
The Lumberjack's first game is November 11 against the Longwood Lancers, and basketball player Kevon Harris, said he's anxious to play the new season. He expressed how he has one goal in mine during his sophomore year.
"Trying to get me a ring and definitely for the team and for the school," Kevon said.
In the meantime, SFASU is celebrating homecoming. The Lumberjacks will face the Houston Baptist Huskies, saturday.
