A Smith County man turned himself in on Monday in connection with a fatal head-on collision that happened in Lindale on Feb. 5.

According to Lindale Police, 46-year-old Michael Fielder turned himself in to the Smith County jail where he was charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter. The arrest stems from an investigation into the wreck by Lindale Police and Texas DPS.

A DPS crash report shows that around 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 5, Fielder was driving south on South Main Street in Lindale and, according to witnesses, crossed into the northbound lane colliding head-on with a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Gabriel Alejandro Flores-Cocolan.

Both were injured in the collision, and Cocolan later died at a local hospital.

Fielder cooperated with authorities during the investigation and turned himself in without incident. His bond was as set at $10,000. He has since made bond and has been released.
