CBS19 caught up with the Wilbanks family, whose son continues to make major strides in recovering from severe injuries received in a car wreck earlier this year.
The Wilbanks family was in a tragic car accident in March 2016 while on their way home from a spring break trip. Carter suffered severe injuries. He was sleeping prior to the accident and slipped into a coma.
"I heard my daughter scream and thought, why don't I hear Carter," Carter's mom Tara Wilbanks stated. "I thought he had died. "
Carter was airlifted to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. Doctors feared for the worst but instead saw a miracle.
"Doctors say because of his brain injury he should be an invalid, but instead he looks to make a recovery," Tara Wilbanks said.
Carter has now begun physical therapy to regain the use of his motor skills. He is working with a bicycle and other tools. Tara Wilbanks says this time in her life has shown her the power of God.
The family also started a GoFundMe page that has brought more than $50,000 in donations.
"That money helped to sustain us," Tara stated. "My husband was not working and I had to resign from my job to watch over Carter."
Carter has big plans for his future. He wants to start his own lawn company and one day mow The White House lawn.
