Tyler ISD School Board members are preparing to discuss renaming Robert E. Lee High School at a meeting scheduled Monday.

Last month, the public had a chance to have their voices heard on the controversial issue and Monday, board members will discuss the issue in a public setting set for 7 p.m.

“The public forum is the proper place for us to have this discussion so the entire public can see how we do business,” said Tyler ISD Board President Fritz Hager, Jr.

He says it was important to hear opinions on both sides of the issue prior to the discussion on the agenda Monday.

“The community deserves to hear the elected officials who are actually responsible for these issues feel about it,” he stated.

No decision will be made regarding the issue at the meeting.
