6:19 p.m.: The fire is 75 to 80 percent contained. No houses are in grave danger and no injuries have been reported.


6:15 p.m.Crews are still fighting the fire, and the blaze has calmed down since it first started.


5:36 p.m.: Hawkins and Tryon Road are now shut down. At least two houses have caught fire.


According to the Gregg County Sheriff's Office, crews are fighting a major fire that started Thursday afternoon in a field.

The fire is spreading toward homes in Longview and evacuations are in place for homes in the area.

A burn ban has been in place for Gregg County.

Crews have shut down Williams Road and Tryon Road and are asking people to avoid the area.

Officers from various law enforcement agencies including the Longview Police Department, DPS and fire crews are on the scene.
