UPDATE: Tree USA near Lindale contained to seven acres

UPDATE: According to Smith County, area firefighters have contained the fire at Trees USA to seven acres.

The Smith County Fire Marshal said that the blaze spread to high stacks of plastic tree tubs that caused the smoke to be seen throughout the area.

The fire crossed the property line into a pine thicket, which slowed the wind and the fire.

The is contained but will continue to smolder for hours and some firefighters will be monitoring throughout the night.

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office Environmental Crimes Unit will be handing the case over to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for investigation.

Five fire departments are fighting an out of control burn at Trees USA at 14352 Farm-to-Market Road 849, near Lindale.

Officials from the Smith County Fire Marshal's Office and the Smith County Sheriff's Office Environmental Crimes Unit are on the scene and the Texas Forestry Service is on the way.

Crews from Lindale, Van, Flint/Gresham, Jackson Heights, Dixie and Red Springs Fire Departments are all on the scene.

The Smith County Fire Marshal's Office was dispatched at 2:09 p.m.

According to Smith County, the burn has spread into nearby woods, and also caught the business' large, plastic tree pots on fire.

Shifting winds are also feeding the fire.

The Smith County Fire Marshal is asking locals to refrain from burning during high winds.

If a controlled burn gets out of control and crosses property lines, you can be charged with reckless destruction of property and be ordered to pay for property damage.
