The Vacation Watch program is a free service that allows residents to feel safer when they are away from home.
When a resident calls the Longview Police to request the watch, a Citizens on Patrol member will check on their home everyday they are gone.
"We want to make Longview safer and give comfort to homeowners." Citizens on Patrol President Mary Sandavar said. "We will check the front door, back door, windows and then tell the police it is all clear."
Longview Police Officer Brandan Thornton tells us the group is an asset to Longview. They are an extra resource for the department.
Citizens on Patrol is currently looking for volunteers and donations to help pay for supplies. Sandavar says this is a non-profit group that relies on the public's generosity.
If you would like to volunteer or donate please contact the Citizens on Patrol at 903-237-8883.
Gilmer, Henderson and Tyler Police will also provide extra patrols around your home if requested.
