Van Zandt County officials are extending a curfew that went into effect after the area was devastated by a series of tornadoes April 29, 2017, according to a post on the Van Zandt County Tornado 2017 Facebook page.

The order is from dusk on May 6, 2017 to dawn May 9, 2017.

The order comes after authorities said the county has been plagued by looting.

Residents who need to work or go to the store are exempt from the curfew, however. The post said residents may be stopped and questioned by law enforcement if they are out past curfew, but will not be detained if they are in the curfew zone for a legitimate reason.

“We understand this may be an inconvenience to some, but please be understanding as this curfew is intended to protect those affected by the tornadoes,” the post read.
