Weekend Forecast: Severe Weather Threat Returns

After a calm week of weather across East Texas a complex and active weather pattern is setting up for the end of the week. This pattern will bring several days of at least some threat for severe weather to East Texas starting on Friday and lasting through Sunday.

Friday & Saturday:

Friday will start off with showers and storms that last in the region until the early afternoon hours. While the bulk of these storms are expected to form later in the day, after the system has passed by, there is a risk some of these early storms could develop into severe storms before exiting the region. The main threat will be hail and damaging winds, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out as well. After this skies should start to clear on Friday afternoon with sun pushing our temps into the low 80s.

A marginal risk for severe weather has been issued for Friday for our eastern counties. .

Severe weather chances will pick up again on Saturday as a stalling front will drop down into our region. This front will be a source for instability in a rather moist environment. The chance for severe storms is not a certainty on Saturday, but we are expecting some cells to develop mostly south of the I-20 region. Again, these cells will have some potential to go severe. Hail and wind will once more be the primary concern, but a tornado cannot be ruled out as well.

A marginal risk for severe weather covers much of the viewing area on Saturday.

Severe impacts possible Friday and Saturday.

Sunday:

Sunday will be the most active day around the region, and the day most everyone looks likely to see showers and storms. We are starting to see many variables turn in favor of a severe weather day on Sunday, and much of the region is under a risk for severe weather. With lots of available moisture and good upper level support, severe risks look to be strongest on Sunday. All severe weather types will be possible, heavy rain, hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes are all in the realm of possibility. We will be keeping a very close eye on Sunday as we head into the weekend, and we recommend downloading the CBS 19 app now so you can be kept up to date as we continue to provide information about this situation.
