Mineola High School pole vaulter looking to compete in Australia this summer

MINEOLA, Texas — An East Texas pole vaulting champion is looking to head "down under" and represent the Lone Star State at an international competition this summer.

Mineola High School sophomore Abby Kratzmeyer brought home the gold as a freshman with a vault of 11’9" at the 2018 UIL State Track and Field Championships in Class 3A, and now she's looking to compete against the best in the world.

Kratzmeyer received an invitation to compete in track and field at the 19th Annual Down Under International Games in Queensland, Australia. 

The two-day competition will take place July 12-July 14. However, athletes are scheduled to leave for Australia on July 6 and return to the United States on July 15.

The Wood County Monitor reports Kratzmeyer will seek to raise funds for her 10-day trip.
