A permission slip to opt out of the Pledge of Allegiance in a Florida school is causing an uproar on social media.

The note was apparently sent home with a Florida student. When that student's uncle saw the note he was outraged and took to Facebook to complain.

It allows parents to check a box that would excuse their child from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in school.

The waiver has sparked intense debated since Micah Brienen posted it on his Facebook page Monday. At the time of this writing, his post has over 24,000 shares.

According to Snopes, permission slips like these are a response some schools have adopted in response to a Florida law that requires students to be informed of their right not to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance if they choose. Students have had the right to opt out since at least 2000.
