A Tyler man has been arrested and charged with murder.

According to Sgt. Darrell Coslin with the Smith County Sheriff's Office, Colton Wade Tate, 22, was arrested in connection with the murder of Andrew Carpenter, 19, of Whitehouse.

On November 5, 2017 Smith County Sheriff's office deputies and EMS responded to a shooting at a residence in the 8800 block of Deerwood Drive in Smith County.

They found 19-year-old Andrew Carpenter with a gunshot wound and witnesses performing CPR. Carpenter was transported to a local hospital, but did not survive.


Two people are now charged with murder in connection with the death of a 19-year-old that happened Nov. 5 in Smith County.

Investigators identified Martin Wesley Reynolds, 21 as a suspect after he arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg the same day.

Reynolds was arrested on one count of murder and remains in the Smith County Jail on a $750,000 bond.

As the investigating continued, authorities identified a second suspect, 20-year-old Nathan Ryan Garcia, and issued a warrant for his arrest on Nov. 8.

Garcia surrendered to authorities at the Smith County Sheriff's office the same day. He was charged with one count of murder with a bond set at $500,000. Garcia made bond and was released Nov. 9.
