SULPHUR SPRINGS (KYTX) - A three-month-old baby boy is hospitalized with second and third degree burns, and is suffering from a fractured leg after being observed by Emergency room personnel in Sulphur Springs.

Sulphur Springs Police Lt. Rusty Stillwagoner tells CBS 19, the baby was brought to the emergency room around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday by 20-year-old Robert James Aufdenburg and 19-year-old Katie Lynn Maynard.

After observing the child, emergency personnel called police who then interviewed the couple and determined their account of what happened didn't add up.

Stillwagoner says the couple was placed under arrest and charged with injury to a child by reckless omission and serious bodily injury, a second degree felony.

The baby boy was transferred to Children's Medical Center in Dalllas.

Both Aufdenburg and Maynard are jailed in Hopkins County.
