A tractor trailer crashed into a moving train in San Augustine Co Monday, Aug. 21 closed to 10 a.m., causing 13 rail cars to derail on FM 1279 according to DPS.
The 2006 Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer was hauling timber and traveling west when it struck the northbound train, which consisted of forty six rail cars.
The driver of the log truck, 33-year-old James Cartwright of Shelbyville, was transported to San Augustine County Memorial Hospital for possible treatment.
One of the overturned rail cars contained sodium hydroxide, which spilled onto the ground. Hazardous materials teams are on scene conducting cleanup efforts. Three homes were evacuated for safety purposes.
TXDOT advised the road will be closed until it has been cleared and asked drivers to prepare for delays in the area.
