Police arrested a suspect after investigating three hit-and-run accidents that happened Thursday evening.

Police received a call around 9 p.m. Thursday that a vehicle had caused three separate accidents, fleeing the scene of each one.

A witness followed the suspected and helped officers locate him at East Erwin just outside the Loop.

Police tried a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as Eugene Johnson, 36, evaded. He drove into the county before getting out of his vehicle and fleeing on foot.

Officers caught up with Johnson and arrested Johnson on three counts of leaving the scene of an accident, DWI with open container, evading in a vehicle and and evading on foot.

Johnson remains in the Smith County Jail on bonds totaling $1,000.
