Saturday was a day to remember for both Tyler Junior College Soccer teams. The men's and women's teams captured national titles.
The TJC men took on Schoolcraft in the championship match. After a scoreless first half, the Apaches scored two goals in the second half to solidify their sixth championship in program history. Mohammed Kamara, who was named the tournament's MVP, scored a goal in the 88th minute to put the icing on the cake for the Apaches. Head coach Steve Clements was named the Coach of the Tournament.
The TJC women won their match 1-0 in a tight defensive battle. With less than four minutes to play in regulation, Claire Ramet kicked in the game-winning goal to give the Apaches their third title in program history. This is their first championship since 2011. Ramet was named to the All-Tournament team, while head coach Corey Rose was named the Coach of the Tournament.
This is the first time since 2009 that both TJC soccer programs swept the national title.
