FRISCO - The 4A Division 1 State Semifinal game in Frisco on Friday night was, on paper, arguably the top game in the state.

It was a battle of the last 2 4A Division 1 State Champions and a battle between 2 teams who haven't lost a game this year.

But when the game started, Carthage took it to Waco La Vega.

The Bulldogs were firing on all cylinders early in this game, scoring 3 times in the first 5 minutes and taking an early 21-0 lead.

But the Pirates wouldn't go away. They slowly chipped away at that lead, trailing 28-14 at the half and 31-20 in the 3rd.

Late in the 4th, the Pirates pulled to within 1 score. But Carthage wouldn't let them get any closer. Ultimately, that early hole was just too much to dig out of. It took every bit of their energy, but Carthage held on to win 46-39.

That win puts the Bulldogs back in the state championship game for the 2nd straight year and 7th time in school history. Carthage will face Kennedale for the state title...that game will be Friday (Dec. 22) at 11:00 AM at AT&T Stadium.
