Tyler Junior College’s graduate assistant/special teams Coach David Garza volunteers his time for the betterment of the athletes.

Garza used to play for the Apaches, and now enjoys giving back.

"It’s all about the students,” Garza stated, "it’s not about the paycheck. It’s about investing in guys, young men and building character around them. That's all we're about at TJC, is just building character."

The person responsible for giving him this opportunity is his former coach, and current Head Coach Danny Palmer.

Palmer praised Garza, "He has a really great passion. And he's really helped our football team with his drills with the kickers and I think he enjoys that. He's made a difference with them, and he's made a difference on this football team."

Many of the special teams’ players realize that they wouldn't be here without Garza

Freshman long snapper Braden Coates stated "He's had a huge impact on me. When I came in, I came to long snap and I had a lot of imperfections, and it’s a position that demands perfection. So Coach Garza came in and taught me a lot of the little things."

Coach Garza cites his father for instilling him with great character.

Coach Garza also stated that he has a year of eligibility left and is hoping to fulfill his lifetime dream of playing for the Dallas Cowboys.
