TYLER & BULLARD, Texas - We're into the regional quarterfinal round of the high school soccer playoffs and some of the matchups are getting intense.
On the boys side, there was an all East Texas game that had a little extra meaning. The Kilgore and Palestine boys met in the state semifinals in 2016, a game Palestine won in a shootout.
The rematch occurred a few rounds earlier in 2017 and this time, the result was different as well as Kilgore got some revenge and picked up a 4-2 win.
On the girls side, it was another all East Texas showdown as the Kilgore girls took on Athens.
It was Athens that led 2-0 at the half, but Kilgore stormed back in the 2nd half to tie the game and force overtime. The 2 teams traded goals in OT and ultimately it came down to a shootout. Athens had a strong showing in the shootout and they would win 3-1 to knock off last year's state semifinalist.
There were a few other local scores reported from the regional quarterfinals. The Chapel Hill boys beat Pittsburg 2-0. The Lufkin Hudson boys beat Waco La Vega 2-1. And the Mabank girls beat Princeton in a shootout.
