With all the focus on the high school football postseason, the Leverett’s Chapel volleyball team has flown under the radar. But now the Lions are making noise on a big stage, since they’re the only East Texas team to make the volleyball state tournament.

Leverett’s Chapel is just a few years removed from one of the worst seasons in school history. But a new coach and a new attitude have turned the program around. Last year, they were one match short of making it to state, and this year, they got over that final hurdle and will return to the state semifinals for the first time in 30 years.

On Tuesday, the school held a pep rally to send the Lions off to the state tournament. The entire school showed up to cheer the team on and let them know that everyone is rooting for them.

Leverett’s Chapel will open up the state tournament on Wednesday at 1:00 PM. The Lions will play Tioga in the semifinals and if they win that match, they’ll advance to Thursday’s championship match. All of those matches will take place at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland.
